A power of attorney is only useful if the receiving authority can work with it. Most of the POAs we handle fall into the categories below. The wording differs in each, and so does what the authority looks for.

General power of attorney

Broad authority over your affairs, or over a defined area of them. Broad wording is convenient, and it is also the wording authorities question most. We translate the scope exactly as drafted, neither widened nor narrowed, and we flag it when a clause reads broader than the purpose you have described.

Special power of attorney

A special POA authorises named acts: selling one property, operating one account, representing you in one case. Here the detail is the document — the title deed number, the account, the case reference, the counterparty. Those identifiers are transcribed exactly, not paraphrased.

Property and land department POA

For sale, purchase, mortgage, gift, or transfer of UAE property. Plot and unit numbers, project and community names, and developer names have to match the record the document will be read against. We keep the official spelling rather than introducing a new transliteration.

Banking and financial POA

For opening, operating, or closing accounts, signing facility documents, or dealing with one named bank. Account numbers and IBANs are checked digit by digit, and the banking powers granted are read clause by clause.

Company and corporate POA

For managers, signatories, PRO representatives, and authorised persons acting for a company. Company names, trade license numbers, and the limits on the authority granted have to survive translation intact — including any monetary cap or requirement for a second signature.

Court and litigation POA

For appointing a lawyer or representative before a UAE court or authority. Case references, the acts permitted — filing, settling, withdrawing, receiving funds — and any restriction on those acts are translated as written.

Personal and family matters

For affairs handled while you are abroad or unavailable: documents, applications, collection, and representation before named bodies. These are usually short documents, where one vague sentence is what causes the delay.

Revoking or amending a power of attorney

A revocation or an amendment is a document in its own right. It has to identify the original POA precisely — date, reference, notary, and the parties. We translate it with those identifiers intact.

What We Check Before Translating a Power of Attorney in Dubai

These checks happen before the quote, not after delivery. They are the point at which a POA problem is cheapest to fix.

  • Names, against the passport. The principal, the agent, and anyone else named. We use the passport spelling, and we ask which spelling to use when someone holds two passports, has a previous name, or appears differently on an Emirates ID.
  • Arabic transliteration. If your name already appears in Arabic on an Emirates ID, a title deed, a trade license, or an earlier POA, that is the spelling we match.
  • The powers granted, clause by clause. What the agent may do and what they may not — and any point where the wording is silent or ambiguous, such as whether the agent may appoint a substitute or whether a monetary limit applies. Where the scope reads unclear, we flag it for you or your lawyer rather than resolve it ourselves.
  • Identifiers. Title deed and plot numbers, unit numbers, account numbers and IBANs, trade license numbers, case numbers, passport numbers. Digits are transcribed, never reformatted.
  • Dates and validity. Issue date, any expiry or validity period, and any Hijri and Gregorian dates that have to agree.
  • Signature and stamp status. Whether the copy is a draft or executed, whether it has already been notarised, and whether stamps sit on the reverse of a page.
  • Where it is going. A notary, a court, a bank, the land department, a free zone authority, a registrar, or an embassy. The destination decides the format, and often the order of steps.
  • Source language. Certified legal translation is Arabic ↔ English, handled in-house by the licensed translator. For other languages, send the document first and we confirm availability.

Power of Attorney Notarisation and Attestation in Dubai

A POA usually has to be notarised as well as translated, and those are two separate steps. Notarisation is done by a UAE notary public or the relevant authority. We prepare the certified translation in the form the notary expects, and we say so plainly when the next stop is the notary rather than us.

The order matters more than the speed. If the POA was signed abroad, its attestation chain normally has to be complete before the certified Arabic translation is produced, because the translation has to show those stamps. If it is being signed in front of a UAE notary, the sequence is usually the other way round. Send the document and we will tell you which applies to it. Why a Power of Attorney Translation Gets Questioned in Dubai

  • The Arabic spelling of a name does not match the spelling already on the Emirates ID, the title deed, or an earlier document in the same file.
  • A general POA is presented where the authority wants the specific act, the specific property, or the specific account named.
  • The translation was produced from the draft, and the signed version came back with changes nobody passed on.
  • The certified translation was made before the attestation stamps were added, so the stamps do not appear in it.
  • The validity period ran out between signing and submission.
  • Stamps or endorsements on the back of a page were never scanned, so the translation reads as incomplete.
  • The agent turns out to need a power the document never mentions — appointing a substitute, receiving funds, or signing before one particular registry.
